The Secret Garden Restaurant is situated in part of the beautiful, five hundred year old, “Kings Head Centre”, right on the bustling High Street of the picturesque town of Maldon.
At the restaurant we strive very hard to provide all our guests with wonderful, simply cooked, fresh and wherever possible, local food that we enjoy cooking. We do all of this because we believe in what we do and enjoy sharing it with our guests. We aim to create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is welcome, whether for a lunchtime bowl of homemade soup and chatter with friends, a romantic evening meal for two or a slap up Sunday roast with the family.
Our menu is inspired by this beautiful part of Essex and we use local seasonal produce where possible. This is reflected by both our menus and our “specials” board where you are likely to see mussels through the winter, game in season, crab and sea bass in the summer and seasonal vegetables and salad throughout the year. We are quickly becoming renowned for our delicious homemade puddings and your only disappointment will be if you don’t leave room for one!
Our “specials” change regularly but if there is a dish that absent but you would like to see please tell us. Also, we are happy to cook or present any ingredients more simply where possible. We do, of course, have a large wine list for you to choose from. We are happy to cater for vegetarians, coeliacs and vegans but can offer a much better choice if we have notice (especially for the latter) so please don’t hesitate to contact us in advance of you visiting.
The Secret Garden seats 38 and is available for private functions. We can also cater for larger bookings.
We have a special menu for “little people” offering real food, well behaved children are always welcome (for the not so well behaved we have a haunted cellar)!
NUT ALLEGIES: we regret we are not able to accommodate serious and/or life –threatening nut allergies as we cannot guarantee the provenance of every item of food that comes into our kitchen.
